Retired Employee Database

The Department of Human Resources (DHR) has created a Retired Employee Database to assist departments Citywide in contacting interested retirees for short-term projects, should the need arise. As a recent retiree, you have a wealth of knowledge that could prove useful to departments. If you would be interested in returning to work for the City in a limited capacity over the next year, please complete our short 4-question survey available here:

NOTE:

  • The City Charter allows for the employment on a limited basis of retired City workers with specialized skills and knowledge, without penalty to an employee's retirement benefits.
  • The City is not obligated to provide employment to retired employees. Even though you complete the Retired Employee Survey, you may or may not be called to work.
  • Employment of a retired employee shall not replace a permanent civil service employee.
  • The database will contain information provided by the retiree. Upon a request from a department for retirees with past experience in certain job classes and potential availability, DHR will run a query from the Retired Employee Database to develop a list. DHR will provide the list with contact information to the requesting department. The requesting department's staff will contact retirees based on operational needs and desired skill sets to determine if the retiree has the appropriate skills set and expertise to fulfill the department's needs.
  • DHR will update the database on a yearly basis by sending retirees in the database a request for an update on their availability/interest. If the retiree does not respond to the update request by the due date, the retiree's data will be deleted from the database.
