Medical Provider Network
The City and County of San Francisco has elected to incorporate a Medical Provider Network effective April 1, 2007 (TBD). This medical network is for all workers' compensation injuries for all city departments except Municipal Railways and Department of Parking and Traffic employees. The goal of the medical provider network is to provide employees with prompt accessible medical care, to have most medical treatment pre-approved with the physicians within the network, and to return city employees back to work.
What is an MPN?
A Medical Provider Network (MPN) is a group of health care providers (physicians and other types of providers) set up by an insurer or self-insured employer and approved by the Division of Workers' Compensation's Administrative Director to treat workers injured on the job. Each MPN must include a mix of doctors specializing in work-related injuries and doctors with expertise
in general areas of medicine. MPNs must meet access to care standards for common occupational injuries and work-related illnesses. Further, the regulations require MPN providers to use medical treatment guidelines adopted by the DWC.
MPNs must allow employees a choice of provider(s) in the network after the employee's first visit.
" How do I find out which doctors are in my MPN and how do I access the MPN Contact?
Your employer or insurer has identified the following department to be the MPN Contact for all employees:

This MPN contact listed in this notification will be able to answer your questions about the CCSF MPN and will help you obtain a regional list of all MPN doctors in your area. At minimum, the regional listing must include a list of all MPN providers within 15 miles of your workplace and/or residence or a list of all MPN providers within the county where you live and/or work. You may choose which list you wish to receive. A regional list of MPN providers is included with this notification. A list of MPN providers can be obtainedby calling our MPN contact person, asking your employer or accessing our website at: http://www.intermedccs.com/CCSFMPN/. Upon access of the website you will immediately be able to search for a provider. No password is necessary. Simply enter your zip code and the list of physicians available in your geographic area will be provided. You also have the ability to print the entire directory from the website or select the About the MPN within the DHR website.
Because of this change, the pre-designation of chiropractors, acupunturists and physicians whose specialties are outside of general practice, OB/GYN, pediatrician, board certified or board eligible internist or family practice will no longer be accepted. Please see the pre-designate your personal physician section.
Although you no longer can pre-designate a chiropractor, you may be able to have a chiropractor as your treating physician within the MPN. There are chiropractors available within the MPN.
